Garbage Truck Accident In New Jersey Results In Fatality

One man is dead following a collision between a garbage truck and a Hyundai Elantra in New Jersey. The accident, which took place on Wednesday, Nov. 12, is under investigation by police and the prosecutor’s office, according to reports.

The incident occurred as a Mack sanitation truck was coming around a curve. At the same time, the Hyundai Elantra was coming around the curve in the opposite direction. The sanitation truck reportedly crossed the centerline, striking the Hyundai.

The Hyundai was being driving by a 47-year-old man. He was pronounced dead shortly before noon at the scene, said the prosecutor. The driver of the sanitation truck, along with his passenger, were both treated at nearby hospitals. The passenger reportedly suffered some leg injuries.

The truck was owned by Grand Sanitation Services. At the time the accident was reported, no details about citations or arrests were provided, and the prosecutor’s office said the incident remained under investigation.

When an accident involves negligence or fault on the part of a driver and another individual is killed as a result of the accident, criminal charges may be an option. Civil charges are also an option, should the family of the deceased want to pursue a wrongful death claim.

Wrongful death claims can help families recoup things such as funeral or medical expenses related to injuries suffered in an accident prior to a person passing away. They can also help families who lose a support structure develop a financial capability for the future. Other claims made in such cases can include loss of companionship and pain and suffering.
