Driver Slams Into Children In Crosswalk, Flees Scene

Even though the school year is nearing an end, drivers must still be cautious about children who are walking to and from school. This is especially true near and in front of schools. Recently, two young children were the victim of a hit-and-run in front of their school. The details of the accident are shocking.

The accident occurred in front of Our Lady of Victories School. The two young boys were in the crosswalk when a car came barreling through and struck them. The driver of the vehicle seemingly ignored the crossing guard, who was holding up a stop sign in the crosswalk.

After the 36-year-old driver struck the 5-year-old and 8-year-old boys, she fled the scene of the accident. She was later arrested when officers found her walking down the sidewalk. She had abandoned her vehicle and tossed her keys to try to conceal the fact that she was driving. She has been charged with several crimes in connection with the hit-and-run accident. Her bail was set at $100,000.

The two boys who were struck were taken to the hospital in New Brunswick. The younger boy remains in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, but the older boy has been released.

The traumatic events of that morning aren’t likely to be something that the two young boys will forget. Their parents will have to help them heal emotionally and physically from the incident.
