15 more suits filed in New Jersey over contaminated steroids

Many people had never heard of compounding pharmacies until one here in the Northeast was in the news a couple of years ago, and not in a positive way. Last November, according to a Nov. 27, 2013, article on the NBC News website, President Obama signed a law that provides more federal oversight of these pharmacies that mix custom medications. This came after a 2012 meningitis outbreak was linked to contaminated injectable steroids from a Massachusetts compounding center. That outbreak killed 64 people and made at least 750 people sick throughout the country.

What is traumatic brain injury and what causes it?

Sports injuries, car accidents, falls, bicycle and skateboarding injuries and major bumps to the head are all injuries that can lead to traumatic brain injury. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, traumatic brain injury is caused by a sudden trauma that causes damage to brain matter. A sudden and violent hit to the skull can cause the damage, but so can an injury that pierces the skull and allows an object to injure the brain's soft tissue.

When a diagnosis is delayed or wrong, look at medical malpractice

Most New Jersey doctors and hospital staff are caring, conscientious professionals who have their patients' best interests at heart. However, like all hardworking people, they can be distracted, fatigued and stressed. In the worst case scenario, medical malpractice occurs because of negligence or careless disregard for proper standard of care.

Two die, 4 injured in New Jersey crash; driver charged

Reflecting on a collision that killed two and injured four, including the driver, a New Jersey State Police sergeant commented that not only were the victims not wearing seatbelts, but allowing an unrestrained 4-year-old to ride in the front seat of a pickup truck was a violation of the law. The car crash on the Atlantic City Expressway in June caused the deaths of two passengers in the cab of a pick-up truck and injured three passengers riding in the bed. The driver was also injured. All were ejected on impact.
