Do not procrastinate care for a head injury

On Behalf of | Jan 25, 2024 | Car Accidents

If you get involved in a car accident and hit your head, you could suffer a closed head injury. This could also happen if you fall at work and strike your head on the floor, or if you’re involved in a slip-and-fall accident at a local business – just to name a few examples.

No matter how the head injury happens, it’s important not to procrastinate getting medical care. A closed brain injury means that there is no significant external damage or anything penetrating the skull. But the injury to the brain can still be very serious and potentially fatal, so it’s wise to talk to medical professionals to determine your best course of action moving forward.

A subdural hematoma

One example of how this can happen is if you suffer from a subdural hematoma. The trauma to the brain causes bleeding in the brain tissues themselves or in the dura mater that surrounds the brain. This protective tissue is located between the interior of the skull in the brain itself. If there is bleeding in this area, it can put pressure on the brain, which builds up over time.

In the early stages, you may not see significant symptoms with a subdural hematoma. But the symptoms can grow worse if the bleeding continues and the pressure keeps building up. In some cases, people even pass away or experience permanent brain damage. That’s why you want to talk to a medical professional quickly, to avoid such severe ramifications.

Of course, getting medical treatment for a brain injury can be quite expensive. If someone else was responsible, it is important for you to know how you can seek financial compensation to cover these costs.
