Could brain injury be linked to the formation of brain cancer?

On Behalf of | Jan 27, 2021 | Brain Injury

Brain cancer is a very serious condition that may be life-threatening for people in whom it develops. This type of cancer can form in a multitude of different scenarios, but you might be surprised to learn that suffering certain injuries may increase your chances of developing it.

According to a recent study, the healing process that occurs after a person has suffered a stroke may raise the likelihood of cancer forming in that person’s brain. The study was conducted by a group of Canadian researchers and consisted of 26 patients who suffered from a condition called glioblastoma, which is the most common type of brain cancer and also the most aggressive. One observation made by the study was that certain cells found in the brains of glioblastoma patients had been behaving as if they were trying to repair an injury within the body. This seems to suggest a correlation between severe brain injuries and the development of brain cancer, a condition in which brain cells accumulate continuously over time.

What to do if you develop brain cancer

It is important to seek medical treatment right away if you think you might be developing brain cancer, as the condition will get more serious as time goes on. There is no cure for cancer, but the condition can be treated. The sooner the problem is detected and treatment is rendered, the greater your chances of beating it will be.

Injuries and brain cancer

If you have developed brain cancer due to a head injury caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be eligible to receive compensation. Consider seeking out legal counsel, as a lawyer can help you fight to win the compensation you deserve.
