15 more suits filed in New Jersey over contaminated steroids

Many people had never heard of compounding pharmacies until one here in the Northeast was in the news a couple of years ago, and not in a positive way. Last November, according to a Nov. 27, 2013, article on the NBC News website, President Obama signed a law that provides more federal oversight of these pharmacies that mix custom medications. This came after a 2012 meningitis outbreak was linked to contaminated injectable steroids from a Massachusetts compounding center. That outbreak killed 64 people and made at least 750 people sick throughout the country.

New Jersey police department gets defective vests refund

Manufacturers must provide safe products to consumers. Dangerous products need sufficient warnings and instructions. But what does one do if a defect in the product design, materials or manufacture causes an unsafe result? That is the question a New Jersey police department has dealt with for the past ten years. Finally, a resolution is at hand.

The basics of product liability lawsuits

Some residents of Burlington, New Jersey, may have wondered if their experience with a product could make for a product liability claim or lawsuit. The case law that makes up the current environment of product liability law was created over many years and continues to change. For example, a hundred years ago, product liability suits were uncommon. Today, laws and regulations to protect consumers take some responsibility off the buyer and place it on the manufacturer or distributor.

Injured New Jersey man sues CVS alleging defective eye drops

Consumers expect that products they purchase will be safe, reliable and do what they are supposed to do. Following directions and using them properly is a matter of personal responsibility. What happens, though, when you do everything right, but still suffer a loss of some kind from a dangerous product? New Jersey law provides legal remedies that can help.

Product liability suit settles before appellate court decision

When a person or people suffer injuries due to dangerous products, they have a right to seek compensation for damages. New Jersey residents are likely familiar with product liability cases against drug companies. Recently, a woman sued Merck Sharp & Dohme Corporation over their drug Fosamax. The jury in that case delivered a verdict for the defendant. According to the verdict, the jury found that the company was not responsible for the fact that the woman developed osteonecrosis in her jaw.

Is design of train platform to blame for man's death?

Riders on one New Jersey train experienced an unexpected delay earlier this week. The train stopped after it struck and killed a man who while standing on the train platform, leaned into the path of the oncoming train. In addition to his death several others were injured when they were struck by flying debris.  Three of those individuals were transported to an area hospital following the incident for treatment. Fortunately none of those injuries were described as life-threatening. In addition, none of the approximately 300 train passengers were hurt in the accident either.

General Motors recalls 1.6M cars due to defective ignition

Throughout the nation individuals rely upon motor vehicles as transportation. When purchasing a car, most consumers, including those who reside in New Jersey, assume that the vehicle will be free from defect. When it is not, in addition to having to deal with time consuming repairs, one may also be placed in danger. Owners of certain cars made by General Motors are dealing with this now.
