Long-term consequences of a traumatic brain injury

On Behalf of | Jul 19, 2018 | Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can happen from any number of events. A New Jersey resident may suffer one during a car accident or they may fall victim to this devastating form of injury when they slip and hurt themselves on a wet floor. No matter how a victim suffers their TBI it is important that they understand and recognize the lasting effects their injury may have on them.

A TBI may cause a victim to suffer serious complications with their coordination. A person who has endured a TBI may not have strong balance or may not be able to focus. Their symptoms can affect their senses as well. TBI can leave a person with blurry vision, ringing eats, loss of the sense of taste and other devastating side effects.

In addition to physical problems TBI can cause victims to suffer mental anguish as well. Because TBI victims may not have good memories and may lack the capacity to focus they can become frustrated over their TBI-related deficiencies. Some victims suffer from feelings of anxiousness or even depression when the effects of their TBI overwhelm them.

A person who suffers a TBI may have to live with the aftermath of their injury for the rest of their life. The mental, physical, emotional and financial toll that it can take on a victim may leave them struggling to get through each and every day. When TBI victims endure their harm because of the negligence or bad acts of others, they may have legal options. Lawsuits based on personal injuries may allow them to seek the recovery of the TBI-related harm and get the help they need in order to thrive.
