Baby loses life after car accident in New Jersey

In the blink of an eye, a car accident can occur in New Jersey that injures or kills innocent people. These situations are made all the more tragic when it is a child who dies.

An infant died and three other people suffered injuries recently when their passenger car was struck broadside by a pickup truck. The baby, just 28-days-old, never recovered from its injuries and died soon after being transported to a hospital for treatment.

The car accident happened around 3:30 p.m. when a 30-year-old woman driving a Hyundai Elantra with two children and a female passenger was turning left onto a road. The driver of a GMC Sierra pickup truck then struck the side of the Elantra.

The driver of the Elantra and her children were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton, where the infant died. The 50-year-old female passenger in the Elantra was transported to a different facility. Her condition was not known. The pickup driver, a 30-year-old male, was apparently uninjured. Police are still investigating the details of the accident.

Very often car accidents are caused by negligence. This means a driver could be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving while distracted or in blatant disregard of traffic regulations. Whatever the reason, negligence can have horrific consequences, including death.

Anyone injured in a car accident should bear in mind that he or she may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit, if there is evidence to support the contention that another driver was reckless or negligent. This legal action may allow victims to seek compensation for damages caused by the accident, including medical bills and long-term costs such as rehabilitation. In the event of a death, a wrongful death lawsuit may be filed by a surviving family member on behalf of a victim and other family members.
