Two men arrested for separate DUI incidents

On Behalf of | Aug 9, 2013 | Drunk Driving Accidents

Police in Harrison, New Jersey have arrested two Newark men for separate drunk driving-related incidents, including one involving damage to a parked car. The first incident occurred when the 52-year-old driver drove the wrong way down a one-way street and backed into a parked car when he realized what he was doing and attempted to turn around.

The man was arrested and charged with DUI for his role in this alcohol-related accident, and was later released on a summons. Police stated that the man’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. The second incident occurred when a Ford SUV sped through a red traffic light, and the police detected that the 33-year-old driver smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. The man was arrested and charged with DUI and failing to observe a traffic sign after he failed a sobriety test.

These incidents are an example of what can happen to the property of bystanders in DUI cases. The first driver backed into a parked car, damaging it and costing the owner valuable financial resources for repairs. While the second driver did not hit another vehicle, he easily could have while driving through the red light. Alcohol-related accidents are a huge financial cost for affected property owners, and there is also the issue of medical bills for anyone injured. Fortunately, nobody was injured in either incident.

However, drunk drivers are the cause of many serious accidents on our nation’s roadways. Anyone injured in a collision with a drunk driver may want to consider their legal options to recover compensation.
